Probiotics for belly fat

Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. Evidence shows that these types of probiotic strain can potentially lose your belly fat.

These 2 blissful good bacteria are the trick to boosting your weight loss. Is it too good to be true? Ingesting lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, will make you sexy?

With those questions in mind, here are supporting studies on probiotics and belly fat.

Can probiotics reduce belly fat?

The study on mice led Scientists to believe that there could be a correlation between probiotics and belly fat.

Mice were fed probiotics for 9 weeks. They found that after 9 weeks, the probiotics limited the accumulation of fat in the body and around the liver. There is also a reduction in cholesterol.

When the same formulation was given to obese mice on a high-fat diet for 10 weeks, the group given placebo increased their weight more than those given probiotics.

It’s also important to note that there was a significant difference in gut wellness with the probiotic group being healthier than the placebo group.

But, those studies are of animals and not humans. Luckily, there was enough evidence to allow research on humans.

However, there are conflicting results. Old research showed probiotics, namely Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strain, have no effect. While the new meta-analysis concludes that probiotics reduced body weight and fat mass significantly.

Even though scientists can’t make up their minds about probiotics’ effectiveness in controlling obesity, it doesn’t mean you can’t.

There is no harm in trying as long as you are not going overboard.

Other than losing belly fat, there are numerous benefits to drinking probiotics.

The following are just some of the benefits attributed to probiotics:

  • Improved gut flora
  • Enhanced immune system
  • Reduction of cholesterol levels
  • Prevents cancer
  • Treats IBS
  • Improves lactose intolerance

Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium

It’s important to note that lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are the only 2 types of strains that are effective against belly fat. Other types can be harmful to the body. And as mentioned, there isn’t enough supporting evidence to be prescribing probiotics to treat obesity.

“…several studies have found that the probiotic effect on body weight and metabolism is strain specific and that only some of the species included in the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteriumgenera are effective, whereas the use of other strains can be deleterious. However, the identification of strains that are potentially associated with a beneficial effect is not enough to suggest their systematic use in the treatment of obesity and related metabolic disturbances. The dosage, duration of administration and long-term effects of the administration of the different strains are unknown. Further studies are needed before probiotics can be rationally prescribed for the prevention or treatment of obesity. Control of the diet and environmental and life-style factors that favour obesity development remain the best solution to problems related to weight gain.”

Where to find the best probiotics for weight loss?

You can find the best probiotics in foods, and you can buy them from shops as supplements.

Typically, fermented foods contain probiotics. The following includes the good bacteria to reduce your belly fat:

  • Kimchi
  • Sauerkraut
  • Kefir
  • Tempeh
  • Natto
  • Miso

Kimchi

kimchi

I never knew anything about Kimchi until I got an introduction from my Korean friend. Kimchi tastes spicy, sour, and a hint of sweetness.

Kimchi is a traditional Korean food. It is served with every dish as an appetizer or used in cooking. Traditional Korean food is also a good diet to take up to reduce belly fat. Click here to find out how.

I fell in love with Kimchi after the first bite. Pretty soon, I was asking my friend to save me a box when his mom makes Kimchi.

Little did I know that this fermented cabbage was doing something to my gut and weight. After months of eating Kimchi religiously, I became regular and lost an inch off my stomach.

There are two types of Kimchi, fresh and fermented. Fermented is what you should be eating.

In a study of 22 obese patients over 8 weeks, they found that eating fermented Kimchi was better for health than eating fresh Kimchi.

The group who ate fermented Kimchi reduced blood sugar levels and waist ratio.

How do you know you are eating fermented Kimchi and not fresh?

Fermented Kimchi is soggy and has less water. In contrast, the fresh Kimchi is crunchy and watery.

Sauerkraut

sauerkraut

My first taste of sauerkraut is from a German restaurant for my birthday. I always heard of sauerkraut but never tried.

How did it taste? Well, it’s not love at first taste like Kimchi, but it’s OK.

Sauerkraut is fermented cabbage with salt in some type of container.

Now, sauerkraut is good for weight loss because it contains the lactobacillus strain.

Research shows that after 2 days of fermentation, there is an abundance of lactobacillus.

“After two days, the most abundant bacteria present are of the Lactobacillales order, which is expected in the case of successful fermentation. This pattern persists throughout fermentation and jarring.”

“…LAB dominate the other fermentation samples as they did at the order level, with Leuconostoc and Lactobacillus as the dominant genera.”

Kefir

kefir

Kefir is fermented milk, similar to a watery yogurt. You make Kefir by mixing kefir grains to cow, goat, or sheep milk. Eastern Europe, North Caucus, and Russia are accustomed to Kefir.

After fermentation, Kefir is abundant with lactobacillus. Culture studies show no findings of Bifidobacterium in Kefir. In animal studies, the high consumption of Kefir increased lactobacilli and Bifidobacterium.

Tempeh

tempeh

Tempeh is an Indonesian dish made from fermented soybeans. Tempeh can be made from other beans and formed into a patty. It is eaten as a snack or with meals.

The human digestive system was simulated in a study to find what kind of good bacteria tempeh produces in the body.

There was a higher count of lactobacillus after digesting fried soy tempeh. On the other hand, absorbing fried bean tempeh produced higher numbers of Bifidobacterium.

Natto

Natto is from Japan, and it’s an acquired taste to eat. Those unfamiliar might vomit at the sight and smell.

A typical Natto has a pungent smell, slimy, sticky, and stringy. Although it looks like a food that has gone way past its expiration date, surprisingly, it tastes nutty, and to some, tastes yum. You be the judge.

Types of Natto video

Regardless of whether you love it or hate it, there is no denying that natto is full of good bacteria, namely, Bifidobacterium.

Miso

miso

Another food probiotic from japan is Miso. Preparing Miso from scratch is easy; you just need to have patience. And obviously, the right ingredients.

You’ll need soybeans, salt, and Koji, also known as Aspergillus oryzae. Fungus and rice make up Koji.

Cook the soybeans, mash it, then add all the ingredients in a jar. Wait for 6 months…

If you don’t want to wait 6 months for the beans to ferment, you can buy them from Asian groceries, preferably from a Japanese grocery store.

Keep in mind that there are live bacteria in Miso, so don’t add it in boiling water. Wait for the water to cool, under 80 degrees, then add the Miso.

Miso harbors the bacterial strain, Bacillus subtilis, which seems to be effective against weight gain in mice.

Although the study on mice, it’s worth trying because Miso is darn yummy.

Best probiotic supplement to lose belly fat

Now that you know which foods contain belly fat reducing bacterial strains, let’s look at supplements you might want to support your diet.

The following is what I think can do wonders for your gut flora and will help you with stomach fat.

Seed

seed probiotics
SEED probiotics

SEED is founded by 2 “unlikely dots,” as they put it, Ara Katz and Raja Dhir. The founders share the same passion for bacteria, which they think will change the world. Both Ara and Raja are successful serial entrepreneurs.

Why Seed? There are many probiotics in the market, what makes Seed unique?

Their numerous Scientific advisory board filled with Doctors, Scientists, Researchers, Dieticians, and a slew of smart brainiacs are willing to put their name behind this product.

Now, if you are someone who holds a Ph.D. degree, putting your name behind something is a big deal. Your reputation is at stake, after all. And as medical professionals, reputation is everything.

Moreover, their formulation is supported by 16 published scientific research in humans, NOT animals. So, rest assured, their products are for humans, not rats or chimpanzees.

Also, probiotics’ survivability from the manufacturer to the store is less than ideal. If the bottle states that there are billions of probiotics in a capsule, that measurement is from the processing plant. By the time it reaches your store, the probiotic count would have decreased significantly.

There is also your digestive process. You know your stomach acid and bile will kill both good and bad bacteria.

SEED addressed this problem by encapsulating the bacterias in their patented algae delivery system. Ensuring the bacteria’s survival during the digestion process and reach the colon where it will get to work.

Another thing worth noting is that their capsules contain no traces of chemicals and their probiotics require no refrigeration. They do recommend that the storage area is warmer than 79℉, consider storing it in the fridge in an airtight container.

What will blow your mind is that there are 24 probiotic strains in this little ocean green capsule. How about the weight loss probiotics lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium? They are all in there. Just have a look at their ingredients list below.

As you can see, they are all from the lactobacillus and bifidobacterium family. There are more, but I couldn’t fit them all on the screen.

Clinically studied benefits:

  • gastrointestinal function
  • skin health
  • heart health
  • gut immune function
  • gut barrier integrity
  • and micronutrient synthesis

You might think that I am biased towards SEED. Heck yeah, I am! I’ve never felt better since taking this supplement.

I’m no slack when it comes to getting probiotics into my system. You’d think my gut flora is in perfect harmony with the amount of Miso and Kimchi that I eat and drink.

Taking SEED improved my dry skin, I’m always regular, I never get constipated, and I still have to check my cholesterol level if there are any changes, but I feel great.

I tried a significant number of probiotics. SEED is the only one I’d recommend to anyone.

Yakult

Now, I know I said I wouldn’t recommend any probiotics other than SEED. But Yakult is worth adding due to numerous studies supporting its effectiveness against stress, disease, inflammation, and types of cancers. It’s also the best tasting liquid probiotics I’ve ever tried.

More importantly, it contains the Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain. A study found that regular intake of Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain helps with sleep quality during stressful times.

[source: Beneficial Effects of Lactobacillus Casei Strain Shirota on Academic Stress-Induced Sleep Disturbance in Healthy Adults: A Double-Blind, Randomised, Placebo-Controlled Trial]

Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain has numerous studies showing its efficacy in surviving the digestive process. Moreover, its shown to prevent and treat cancer.

What is the best probiotic to reduce belly fat?

If I had to choose only one probiotic to reduce belly fat, I would want, Kimchi. It’s just so yum and full of lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, which are proven to reduce stomach fat. I’ll still be taking my SEED supplements, though.

Supplements are just that, a supplement, a companion. And SEED is an excellent addition to my diet.

As I mentioned, I feel much better with SEED. I’m not saying it will work for you. We are all different. However, it won’t stop me from recommending this to people I know because it just works.

Conclusion

The only proven probiotic that can help reduce belly fat are lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. Any other type will be harmful to your health.

Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are in these types of food:

  • Kimchi
  • Sauerkraut
  • Kefir
  • Tempeh
  • Natto
  • Miso

Getting your probiotics from foods is ideal, especially if you love the food. Take me, for example. It helps that I love Kimchi.

However, experiencing digestive relief after taking probably the best probiotic supplement on the planet, SEED, made me think twice.

Nevertheless, I’ll still be eating my Kimchi, followed by a capsule of SEED.

Ladies and gents, gather round, I’ve got a tale to tell. Picture this: a body that refuses to bulk up, paired with a metabolism slower than a snail’s race to the finish line. It’s a curse, I tell ya! But fear not, my friends, for I took this challenge head-on and became a scholar in all things weight loss and nutrition. And now, I’m here to share my tales of triumph (and some struggles) with you all, so you too can finally achieve that bod of your dreams! flex (just kidding, still workin’ on it).
