Keto diet before and after (no exercise, LOST 33 pounds!)

I heard about the keto diet after watching “Magic Pill,” on Netflix.

How can you eat fat all day and lose fat?

What a load of crap I said.

I mean, you are eating fat, so you’re gaining fat, right?

However, the “Magic Pill,” did a great job presenting and explaining the keto diet. The show backed the keto diet with Scientific evidence, doctors, and people who are on keto.

So, perhaps the keto diet was worth exploring, and I did.

This is what happened…

I found out about the Keto diet before I got certified as a Weightloss Nutritionist.

I was more of a foodie back then, and my relationship with food was yummy.

Cheesecake, ice cream, and a milkshake was a match made in heaven. I never knew how bad sugar was wreaking havoc to my body.

After watching the “Magic Pill,” my sugar view shifted. Now, when I see sugar, I see evil granules feeding my cancer cells.

I would still be drinking Coke, milkshakes, and shoving white chocolates in my mouth to this day if I hadn’t watched the “Magic Pill.”

The first week of keto

I didn’t realize how hard it was to give up carbohydrates. I’m Asian and grew up eating rice. I mean, I eat rice with everything. I even eat rice with mango. It’s nice. You should try it.

The first week of keto was hard. I suffered rice withdrawals.

Moreover, I experienced the keto flu. I was feverish, weak, and always in a crappy mood. I hated myself. So, I stopped.

Some people have no trouble starting the keto diet. However, some, like me, are not so lucky.

I was scrolling through my Keto Facebook group and saw a post about ketones and how it can help with the dreaded keto flu.

With this in mind, I set out to find out more about ketones. I Googled, asked around forums, and oh my god…

There are so many things I never knew that might affect your keto journeys, such as keto flu, migraines, and unexplained bitchiness.

The research and solution to the keto flu

After careful research and listening to other people’s experiences, I came up with four essential supplements that I will need not to feel like I’m in hell when I do the keto diet.

  1. Exogenous ketones
  2. Electrolytes
  3. Digestive enzymes
  4. Vegetable supplement

Exogenous ketones

Exogenous ketones are probably the most important out of all the four. If you’re only to buy one supplement to help you with keto, this is it.

Exogenous ketones have proven to provide significant help while on the keto diet.

People who took exogenous ketones rarely suffered the keto flu.

Research also proves that the use of ketones helped with weight loss.

One thing to note is to buy proper exogenous ketones. I’ve heard stories of people who took ketones and still suffered the flu or have a hard time reaching Ketosis.

I’m not sure if it has something to do with the quality of the supplement.

Supplements are not kept under scrutiny. So, there are supplements that do not contain what it says on the label.

However, Ketone Accelerator has helped, and I’ve heard good things about Ketosis Now

Electrolytes

There could be imbalances in your diet when you change your diet even more if you are altering your body’s energy source.

Electrolytes have shown to reduce ill effects from the keto diet such as vomiting, dizziness, and insomnia.

“…Ensuring adequate fluid and electrolyte intake can help counter some of these symptoms.”

Digestive enzymes

When you are eating high amounts of fat, your body’s digestive system will be overworked. Taking suitable digestive enzymes that contain the right amount of protease and lipase may help digestive issues relating to the keto diet.

Vegetable supplement

Although most of your calories on the keto diet are from protein and fats, you can still eat vegetables on the keto diet, so long as it’s low in carbs.

I know vegetables can be fibrous, starchy, and full of carbs, but not all vegetables are made the same.

There are non-starchy vegetables, such as spinach. A cup of spinach only contains 1 gram of carb, according to the Carb Manager.

Concentrate on green leafy vegetables while on the keto diet to stay under 50 grams of carbs per day.

But, some of us don’t even eat vegetables in a standard diet. If you’re not a fan of vegetables, it’s even more crucial to get a supplement.

Taking vegetable supplements can help you get sufficient micronutrients. Doing so will keep your body in tip-top condition and functioning at its peak.

When you buy vegetable supplements, make sure it doesn’t contain fillers, corn starch, or fiber additives.

Before I started the Keto diet

no idea about keto
no idea about keto

I didn’t know anything about the keto diet. I just dived right in the deep end. I didn’t know how to start correctly and safely. I knew nothing about the keto flu.

The first week is supposed to be the hardest, and I found out the hard way. I suffered the worst possible keto flu. I felt weak, my body was on fire, a huge ass hammer hitting my head, and I vomited, which led me to stop the keto diet.

On my second try at the keto diet, I was armed with the right knowledge. My second first week of the keto diet was fantastic!

I felt great, full of energy, and no keto flu. And this went on for four months on the keto diet. There were no side effects whatsoever.

What can you eat on the keto diet?

Well, this is what I ate on my keto diet. Believe it or not, I lived on eggs and avocado for breakfast.

I ate eggs and avocado daily for four months. I ate so much that I couldn’t look at another egg for two months after the keto diet.

Lunch was a fish affair. I often ordered grilled fish from the cafeteria. Sometimes, I would bring my lunch, consisting of 4 boiled eggs.

My dinner involved meat and lots of fat. Avocado and olive oil was my go-to source of fat because it’s the healthiest alternative.

Snacks? Forged-aboud-it!

What was the hardest about the keto diet?

Funnily enough, my temptation vanished. My sweet cravings disappeared while on the keto diet.

I guess not eating sugar tells your body that you don’t need it.

But, the hard thing about eating fat and limiting carbs from your diet is the no-rice rule.

As an Asian man, who grew up on rice, I always wished to have rice with every meal while on keto. The meal is just not complete without the rice.

Also, my lack of keto recipes had me eating the same food daily. It was like groundhog day the whole four months.

Other than my Asian cravings for rice, eating the same food every day, I had no difficulties achieving and maintaining Ketosis.

Traveling while on the keto diet wasn’t so bad. If there was no alternative, I had no problem eating a Big Mac and throwing away the bun.

Benefits of the keto diet

Not to get into the Scientific data and only base it on my experience, I can say that there are real benefits of keto that you can feel almost right away.

The most interesting thing about the keto diet was the way I felt fuller for longer. I did know how fat is harder to burn compared to glucose, but this is just ridiculous.

I felt like I could eat breakfast and nothing else for the rest of the day.

But, I didn’t do that because I knew I needed the nutrients in my body. And that it will have a detrimental effect on my health if I’m malnourished.

While on Ketosis, my avocado and two egg breakfast could last me seven hours and still feel full.

Before the keto diet, eating a pot of oats will only last four hours before I start getting hangry.

Another good thing about the keto diet is that I didn’t exercise, but I still lost 33 pounds in 4 months.

If I had to do it all over again, I would read about the supplements that can help with the keto flu, digestive problems, and the lack of nutrients on the keto diet.

I would buy exogenous ketones, vegetable supplements, digestive enzymes, and electrolytes.

You don’t have to buy those I mentioned. You may not even get the keto flu or adverse effects of the keto diet. Start without the supplements if you’d like and see how your body reacts.

Some people didn’t take supplements and still reach Ketosis.

However, it’s vital to get your vitamins and nutrients. And adding supplements to your diet can help.

Conclusion

So, finally, below is me before and after the keto diet.
